Today in 1992, Nirvana performed at the NBC Studios for ‘Saturday Night Live’ in New York, NY! The band French-kissed during the live end-of-show credits, the credits were then re-taped. All rebroadcasts use the re-taped credits. Earlier in the day, while Nirvana was backstage at the NBC Studios, ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic calls up Kurt and asked if he could do a parody of “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, Kurt was ecstatic and agreed as he was a big fan of ‘Weird Al’. “Nevermind” also went straight to #1 knocking Michael Jackson’s “Dangerous” off the top spot.
